VMware NSX: the REVOLUTION of communication and protection in the data center

Ricoh and VMware's software-defined networking (SDN) solution helps organizations deploy advanced capabilities throughout the data center network in an innovative and simple way.

VMware NSX endows the data center network with qualities that, in the past, were exclusive to large and very expensive devices. The traditional network architecture (which was the only option for decades) is based on the connection points providing only basic functionality, leaving the intelligence of routing and enforcement of control or security policies of higher layers to devices that were normally located in the core or at the edge of the network.

The rEVOLUTION of the software-defined network is that it can now be extended horizontally to all access points in the data center, allowing filtering, segmentation, load balancing, quality of service, traffic control and monitoring, provisioning automation and interoperability between segments, sites or clouds from the first connection port of the servers.

How is this achieved? - Through software, in this new way of thinking about data center networks. The intelligence layer that traditionally "inhabited" sophisticated controller cards is extracted and installed in a cluster of servers that in addition to increasing the capabilities, functionalities, speed and scalability also extend these benefits to all devices that want to participate in this platform by providing them with advanced network intelligence. In this way, the capabilities depend only on the software, allowing the use of simple and inexpensive communications devices.

Less configuration per virtual machine or group of virtual machines are inherited independently of the host, data center or cloud, providing greater efficiency in administration.
