UNISNORTE was born as a response to the need for access to higher education in Santo Domingo Norte, one of the most populous municipalities in the Dominican Republic, which for many years lacked its own university.
The initiative was driven by Professor Nouel Antonio de la Cruz Ibé, who recognized the need to bring educational opportunities closer to the community's residents. With the support of community leaders and business owners, the project took shape until it was officially approved by CONESCyT on December 3, 2021, through Resolution No. 36-2021.
Since its founding, UNISNORTE has been committed to providing quality higher education, promoting sustainable development, and preparing professionals capable of contributing to the growth of Santo Domingo Norte and the country.
One of the main challenges UNISNORTE faced during its creation and growth was securing the physical and technological infrastructure needed to deliver quality higher education. The institution needed a suitable building, equipped classrooms, laboratories, furniture, and technological resources to carry out academic activities efficiently.
Acquiring these spaces and equipment was a significant challenge, as they were essential to ensuring a modern educational experience, meeting required standards, and keeping pace with growing student demand in Santo Domingo Norte.
As part of transforming its spaces, UNISNORTE chose to acquire Managed Print Services (MPS). However, Ricoh identified an opportunity to deliver an even greater impact for UNISNORTE's educational project. Beyond the initial print proposal, we co-created the concept of Smart Classrooms, an innovative tool to strengthen the teaching and learning experience at the institution.
As part of the consulting and co-creation process between Ricoh and UNISNORTE, visits were made to universities that had already implemented immersive classroom technology, as well as to Ricoh's offices, where UNISNORTE's leadership got a firsthand look at how interactive displays, audio systems, and the various collaboration and communication capabilities of these spaces work.
After evaluating the benefits of the solution and its potential to modernize education, UNISNORTE decided to incorporate immersive classrooms into its institutional project. This implementation equipped the university with innovative technological spaces capable of enriching interaction between faculty and students, fostering dynamic learning, and strengthening its academic offering from the very beginning.
The implementation of Smart Classrooms for an immersive experience significantly transformed UNISNORTE's academic experience. Thanks to the solution's image quality, audio, and connectivity, common concerns related to communication during virtual classes were eliminated, such as the questions: "Can you hear me?" or "Can you see this clearly?"
As a hybrid university, this technology has allowed faculty to teach remotely with an experience very close to being in person, feeling like part of the classroom and interacting naturally with students.
In addition to improving teaching quality and class participation, the solution has strengthened the institution's educational model, providing greater flexibility and academic continuity.
UNISNORTE expresses a high level of satisfaction with the implemented solution and the support provided by Ricoh throughout the entire process, highlighting the quality of service, specialized guidance, and commitment shown from the initial evaluation through project launch. This is, without a doubt, another example of how Ricoh transforms traditional spaces into smart workspaces in the education sector, key to a smooth, uninterrupted teaching and learning model.
