Ricoh named to “Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders” list for second consecutive year
TOKYO, June 30, 2023 - Ricoh today announced its inclusion in the Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders 2023 list as one of 275 companies recognized. Developed by the Financial Times and research provider Statista, the list recognizes companies headquartered in this region that achieved the greatest reduction in their core emissions intensity between 2016 and 2021. Based on data provided by participating companies, the reduction was calculated using the increase/decrease in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (intensity) relative to each company's revenue and also took into account transparency in relation to Scope 3 emissions and CDP score and approval of Science Based Target (SBTi) initiatives.
In April 2017, Ricoh became the first Japanese company to join RE100, a collaborative group made up of the world's most influential companies committed to using 100% renewable electricity. The company has set ambitious targets, seeking to reduce its GHG emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 63% and Scope 3 by 40% by 2030 compared to the FY2015 level. This target is approved by the SBTi and is aligned with the 1.5°C ambition of the Paris Agreement. In March 2021, Ricoh raised the 2030 renewable energy use target from 30% to 50%, to transition to 100% renewables-derived electricity by 2050.
The company's efforts also include: improving production processes, implementing high-efficiency and energy-saving equipment, acquiring Net Zero Energy Building certification at business centers in Japan, and purchasing electric vehicles for the corporate fleet. In addition to energy-saving efforts by revising the logistics process, Ricoh is making efforts to implement renewable energy at its own sites, such as employing on-site PPA model as renewable energy with additionality and signing Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) in Japan. The electricity used for the overall production of A3 multifunctional equipment comes entirely from renewable energy.
