Prepared by Patricia Rosales, Ricoh Costa Rica

History and context

The José de San Martín School in Barrio San José, Alajuela, has been a fundamental pillar for a community facing significant socioeconomic challenges. The lack of adequate educational resources has been a barrier to students' academic progress. With the vision of transforming this reality, an innovative educational project was launched that seeks to redefine the learning experience.

Business of the Institution

The main challenge for the José de San Martín School in Costa Rica was to integrate advanced technology into an environment with limited resources. The community needed a solution that would not only improve educational quality, but would also be sustainable and accessible to all students, regardless of their circumstances.

Solution implemented

To overcome the challenges, a project was implemented that included the installation of 18 Ricoh Interactive Whiteboards, which allow for more dynamic and participatory teaching. In addition, anIntelligent Multifunctional Ricoh model IM 3000 was acquired to facilitate the production of exams and educational materials. These solutions have provided the José de San Martín School with the following benefits:

  • Educational Transformation: Interactive displays with 3D software have revolutionized the way of teaching, making learning more attractive and understandable.
  • Access to Technology: Students now have access to state-of-the-art technological tools, something that previously seemed unattainable.
  • Increased Motivation:The introduction of advanced technology has sparked a new interest and enthusiasm in students to learn.

Results

Since the implementation of the project, there has been a notable improvement in the academic performance of students at the José de San Martín School. The new technological tools have fostered greater participation in class and a deeper understanding of the subjects studied, thus accelerating the Digital Adoption of the educational institution.

The success of this innovation project at the José de San Martín School has generated great interest in replicating this initiative in other communities with similar needs. Opportunities are being explored to take this model to different regions of Costa Rica, with the goal of continuing to improve education in marginal urban areas with exceptional academic experiences through technology.
