What is DaaS

What is DaaS and what are its advantages for companies

By Juan Carlos Tercero, Workplace IT Services Regional Manager Ricoh Latin America

The accelerated digital transformation has led to an increase in the tasks and complexity for organizations to manage multiple devices, of different types, operating systems and multiple vendors. This situation has become a challenge for the IT areas of companies as the increasingly distributed IT infrastructure is exposed to risks that affect productivity and performance if not supported quickly and efficiently.

Currently, 60% of IT managers report that their resources are dedicated to device management.

Companies need to focus on achieving their organizational and business goals, not on IT complexity.
IT complexity. So it is vital to have technology vendors that provide a robust and flexible technology infrastructure. This is why recent trends show that companies are increasingly looking for "As a Service" solutions).

One example of this model is Device-as-a-Service (DaaS), a flexible, end-to-end managed solution that combines hardware, software, management, maintenance and device support, allowing IT departments to reduce their daily burden of repetitive tasks and focus their efforts on what is important: business continuity and evolution.

What components should an effective DaaS service have?

  • Provide and manage Hardware: The DaaS provider must provide personalized consulting to detect the needs of each business and then provide the best choice of devices (branded or third party), as a single point of contact for all related IT needs.

  • Software: The vendor should provide the best software and applications for business productivity. Ask if the company is a Microsoft partner, for example, and if it has certifications to take full advantage of the capabilities of today's business productivity applications and tools.

  • Endpoint (device) management: The company should include desktop and laptop administration, software installation and deployment, patch updates and remote support.

  • Remote Support - Service Desk (Level 1 and Level 2): Once the devices are implemented, constant support and attention to the user is necessary, using different means of contact to assist in case of failures, doubts and service requirements.

  • Field Support (optional): Ask about the type of experience of the technical professionals available so that they can provide the field support you need in order that end-user operations are not impacted, and have an agile and efficient service experience.

The main benefits of DaaS:

  • Cost optimization - reduced capital expenditures: Monthly cost, per device and scalability based on your needs.

  • Security - prevention and maintenance: Malware protection, antivirus, firewall, VPN, policy violation alerts, software updates. In essence, designed with security in mind, primarily for remote work.

  • Time savings - eliminates routine work: Allowing the IT team to concentrate on more important business projects, leaving support and maintenance to the DaaS provider with the support options you require. Your users can also benefit from extended uptime, updated devices and on-demand support.

Consider these points and you will achieve an efficient investment to equip your digital ecosystem adjusting it to the new hybrid work style saving time and costs.
