Case Study: Comprehensive Technology Evolution - Sondel

Case Study: Comprehensive Technology Evolution - Sondel

Case prepared by Patricia Rosales, Ricoh Costa Rica

History and Context

Sondel is a company with more than 28 years of experience in the Costa Rican market, recognized as a leader in the commercialization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

With more than 3,000 active customers, over 300 employees, four branches, and a presence across Central America, its operations require high levels of coordination, logistical efficiency, and business continuity.

The company’s sustained growth created a clear need: to strengthen its technological infrastructure to support expansion, optimize internal processes, and ensure a modern, standardized work environment across all locations.

Business Challenge

As the organization grew, significant challenges began to emerge within its technology environment:

  • Equipment with different life cycles and non-standardized configurations.
  • Decentralized support processes across branches.
  • Difficulty maintaining continuous hardware and software updates.
  • Different technology requirements across departments such as Management, Finance, Logistics, and Customer Service.
  • Operational risks due to extended technical response times.

The company needed to transition to a comprehensive model that would ensure efficiency, control, predictability, and technological scalability.

Ricoh Solution

A strategy was designed based on a managed services model that integrated technology, support, and continuous guidance.

🔹 Managed IT Services and Device (DaaS)

The technology fleet was renewed and standardized under a managed model, incorporating a centralized help desk, remote and on-site support, end-to-end warranty management, and continuous updates of equipment and software.

This approach transformed traditional procurement into a more flexible, service-based solution.

🔹 Managed Print Services (MPS)

Remote monitoring of multifunction printers was implemented, along with preventive and corrective maintenance and automated consumables supply, ensuring operational continuity across all areas.

🔹 Audiovisual Solutions (Pro AV)

Collaboration spaces were modernized with professional technology, enhancing the experience for internal meetings and executive presentations.

The implementation was supported by technical visits, detailed needs assessments, and cross-functional coordination across different areas of the organization.

Results

The new model enabled Sondel to focus on its business strategy while its technological infrastructure operates under a managed and predictable framework:

  • Comprehensive modernization of the technology environment.
  • Standardization of equipment and configurations.
  • Centralized support and improved incident management traceability.
  • Reduced technical response times.
  • Optimization of internal and administrative processes.
  • Enhanced experience in collaborative spaces.

The implementation strengthened the company’s operational stability and improved efficiency across multiple areas of the business.

Technology evolved from being a reactive element to becoming a strategic enabler of growth, providing greater control, predictability, and alignment with corporate objectives.

“We are very interested in expanding this model to other subsidiaries”. Luis García, IT Manager, Sondel.

Case Study: Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS)

Case Study: Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS)

Case prepared by Patricia Rosales, Ricoh Costa Rica

History and Context

The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) is one of the most important public institutions in Costa Rica, responsible for providing healthcare and social security services to millions of people. Its network includes hospitals, clinics, and administrative units that rely daily on the production and management of medical and administrative documents.

Within this structure, the document production center plays a key role by generating medical forms, institutional documents, and informational materials essential to the operation of the healthcare system.

As document demand grew, the need arose to modernize the print center’s technological infrastructure to improve efficiency, quality, and production capacity.

Business Challenge

The increase in document volume created several challenges for the institution:

  • Printing equipment with limitations in speed and capacity
  • Document production processes with multiple manual steps
  • Limited physical space for print center operations
  • High demand for documents from hospitals and administrative areas
  • Need to ensure operational continuity in critical processes

The institution required a solution that would optimize document production processes and improve operational efficiency.

Ricoh Solution

To address these challenges, a modernization project was developed based on the integration of digital production technology and improvements to the operational infrastructure.

High-production digital printing equipment was implemented capable of handling large document volumes with greater speed and quality. In addition, automated finishing systems, were integrated to reduce manual work in tasks such as collating, stapling, and document preparation.

The project also included upgrades to electrical infrastructure and environmental controls, necessary to ensure proper equipment performance, as well as training for staff responsible for operating the document production center.

Results

These improvements enabled the Costa Rican Social Security Fund to achieve:

  • Modernization of the document production center
  • Increased printing capacity and speed
  • Reduced production times
  • Improved document quality and consistency
  • Optimization of operational staff workload
  • Greater continuity in institutional processes

The implementation significantly improved the efficiency of the document production center and optimized response times to meet the needs of the institution’s various departments.

Thanks to this technological modernization, the CCSS print center in Costa Rica now operates with greater stability, capacity, and quality, strengthening document support for the healthcare system’s operations.

Case Study: Arcos Dorados

Case Study: Arcos Dorados

Case prepared by Marisol Merino, Ricoh Peru.

History and Context

Arcos Dorados Peru, the operator of the McDonald’s brand in the country, is part of Arcos Dorados Holdings, the largest independent McDonald’s franchise in the world, with a presence in 20 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean.

In Peru, the company operates more than 30 restaurants in Lima and other regions, adhering to strict global standards of quality, service, and safety.

Aligned with McDonald’s principles, the company aims to deliver a consistent, safe, and high-quality experience in every restaurant, ensuring business continuity and strengthening the brand’s position in the local market, supported by a reliable and scalable technology infrastructure.

Business Challenge

As the McDonald’s operator in Peru, Arcos Dorados faced the challenge of strengthening the security and technology infrastructure across its restaurants, ensuring high availability and reducing operational risks in a continuous operation environment. The company needed to modernize its CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) systems and enhance its Data Center platform to respond efficiently to incidents, minimize disruptions, and comply with strict corporate and regulatory standards required by a global brand.

From the IT perspective, the challenge was to ensure stability, scalability, and compliance with demanding SLAs, while operationally the priority was to reduce incident response times, protect people and assets, and standardize in-store technology for more efficient and controlled management.

Ricoh Solution

At Ricoh Peru, we designed and implemented a comprehensive Electronic Security and Data Center solution, aligned with McDonald’s global standards and the critical nature of its operations in the country.

For electronic security, a modern and standardized CCTV system was deployed across 15 restaurants, featuring the installation of over 300 security cameras, monitors, NVRs, and switches. This implementation enabled continuous monitoring of critical areas, strengthened risk management, and improved incident response capabilities.

The solution was complemented by Ricoh Workplace Managed Services, incorporating specialized consulting, implementation, onsite and remote technical support, warranty management, and preventive and corrective maintenance. This managed services model ensured stable operations, continuous monitoring, and response times aligned with business requirements.

In parallel, a Data Center infrastructure based on servers, storage, and switches was implemented to ensure the continuity of critical systems supporting restaurant operations, minimizing the risk of disruptions and downtime.

Jussara Paredes, Head of Safety, Health, and Environment, highlights the importance of this solution: "We decided to hire Ricoh’s services because they offered technological solutions that not only helped us address security issues, but also enabled additional use cases across other departments. During the project, we highly valued the consulting service: the entire Ricoh team provided strong support in addressing the challenges that arose during implementation. This had a positive impact on meeting our KPIs, along with the support from post-sales services to promptly handle corrective maintenance."

  • 88% reduction in risks and incidents, strengthening the protection of people, assets, and brand.

Ricoh named in the 2026 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations by Corporate Knights

Ricoh named in the 2026 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations by Corporate Knights

TOKYO, January 21, 2026 — Ricoh announced today that it has once again been named one of the 2026 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations — marking the 14th time the company has received this recognition.

In the 2026 Global 100 assessment, Ricoh achieved the following rankings:

  • 19th among 1,043 companies in the Information Technology Sector
  • 3rd within the Computers and peripherals manufacturing Peer Group

www.ricoh-americalatina.com

The Global 100 is an annual ranking published by Corporate Knights Inc., a leading sustainable-economy media and research organization. Based on publicly disclosed data from 8,231 companies with annual revenues of more than US$1 billion, the ranking evaluates companies using three equally weighted performance indicators — sustainable revenue, sustainable investment and sustainable revenue growth — with additional adjustments for penalties and executive compensation linked to sustainability performance. Results are announced during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

Mikako Suzuki, Corporate Officer in charge of ESG and Risk Management at Ricoh Company, Ltd., said, “The Ricoh Group is advancing its sustainability initiatives by aligning ESG with business growth. We are honored to be recognized once again as a Global 100 company. This recognition reflects high evaluations of our continued efforts to expand sales of sustainable products and services, as well as investments in sustainability, including upgrades to energy-efficient facilities. Looking ahead, we will continue to work with our stakeholders to accelerate efforts toward realizing a sustainable society through business activities.”

Ricoh’s approach to sustainability is to pursue a sustainable society through a Three Ps Balance — Prosperity (economic), People (society) and Planet (environment). To realize this vision, Ricoh has identified seven material issues in two focus areas — “Resolving social issues through business” and “Robust management infrastructure” — and has set 16 ESG targets linked to these issues. In 2020, Ricoh positioned ESG initiatives as future financial targets — one of the dual companywide management targets along with regular financial goals. Since then, ESG indicators have been incorporated into Ricoh’s executive compensation.

Ricoh recognized as a Top 5 global AV Integrator in SCN Top 50 Systems Integrators 2025

TOKYO, December 18, 2025 – Ricoh has been recognized as one of the world’s leading Audio Visual (AV) integrators by Systems Contractor News (SCN), ranking fourth in the SCN Top 50 Systems Integrators 2025 list. This marks the third consecutive year that Ricoh has been listed among the Top 5, reaffirming its sustained growth and leadership in the global AV integrator market.

The list provides an annual snapshot of the AV industry, highlighting top companies that deliver solutions across diverse vertical markets worldwide. The ranking is based on the previous year's sales and expected revenue from enterprise AV systems installations in the current year. Ricoh’s continued presence in the Top 5 reflects its strategic investments and partnerships aimed at meeting the growing demand for advanced AV and collaboration solutions.

With the professional audiovisual (Pro AV) market projected to grow significantly in the coming years, Ricoh has invested to strengthen its capabilities through acquisitions of leading AV integration firms, including Cenero (US), DataVision, Pure AV, AVC (EMEA), Videocorp and Go2neXt (Latin America). In addition to these acquisitions, Ricoh has expanded its ecosystem through strategic partnerships with global technology providers such as LG and Logitech. Most recently, Ricoh announced a strategic partnership with Neat, a global innovator in video collaboration devices, to deliver enhanced meeting experiences and hybrid work solutions for organizations worldwide. This strategic alliance further reinforces Ricoh’s expertise in AV managed services (AVMS), a core component of its Workplace Experience business.

As a global workplace services provider, Ricoh delivers consistent services that support the new ways people work. Within the Workplace Experience domain—which includes communications and collaboration services—Ricoh offers solutions that enable seamless collaboration across offices and hybrid environments, helping people work more creatively. Through an integrated portfolio of hardware, software, and managed services, Ricoh allows customers to reduce operational complexity, focus on value-creating work, and drive organizational growth.

“Achieving a Top 5 ranking in the SCN Top 50 for the third consecutive year reflects Ricoh’s continued leadership in the global AV integration market,” said Masaya Takahashi, General Manager, Workplace Business Center, RICOH Digital Services Business Unit, Ricoh Company, Ltd. “As workstyles continue to diversify, organizations need partners that deliver consistent, intuitive, and scalable workplace experiences.
